The last posts on this Blog were from March of 2025, and it is now March of 2026 one year later. So what happened during this time? Even if I wasn't doing a daily or weekly challenge I still should have posted something during that time right?
A few factors led me into forgetting about and not updating this Blog. First off, a lot of my posts here were done at slow days at work. Starting after Tax Season last year (so Mid-April) things just got crazy insane at work and it didn't slow down as we ramped up to a merger that only completed in January of 2026. It took a few months longer for things to fall into place, mostly and while I'm still busier then I was in March of 2025 for sure I actually have some slower days at work again where I can do thought dumps here if I need something to do.
I also really fell behind on my photo editing. I tried to keep up on my fandom-event type stuff but even that I have un-edited photos lingering out there. Last year I still went out and shot plenty of photos but the amount of general photography I edited and uploaded since like early May of 2025 has been very little.
A lot of this has been due to energy and will honestly. I still enjoy going out and taking photos, and I still enjoy collecting cameras and switching around camera equipment to try and play with in the field. Since my last post I made one real big shift and that was spending nearly 3 grand in camera equipment to switch roles of Panasonic and Nikon whereas Panasonic is now my main kit and Nikon is now my secondary kit with upgrading my Panasonic G9 to the G9 Mark II, and buying into Panasonic's Full Frame system with a Panasonic S5 (OG) once I learned that there are options for more reasonably priced L mount glass especially when Sigma is brought into the picture.
The big reason for this change was that every camera and camera brand handles things such as Autowhite balance, Color saturation and contrast. A photo taken on a Sony Mirrorless camera will look different then a Canon, Nikon or Fuji. This means that you will get a slightly different look out of the box from any given camera.
Given enough time in a Post Processing program you can easily make one photo from Camera X look like it was shot from Camera Y instead. However, its often a manual process to do so and is very time-consuming to do especially if you are someone like me who culls and edits hundreds of photos at a time..
When I looked back on the amount of time spent editing per shot and how much time it took to get an image to my prefered style of look Panasonic came out to having the cleanest shots SOOC in many situations that Nikon and Canon would be all over for consistency.
Beyond that there are also factors such as ergonomics and I just absolutely love how Panasonic cameras feel in the hand. They're sturdy yet not so heavy and bulky that I feel like I am wearing/walking around with a boat anchor every time I go out to shoot photos. The buttons are well laid out and the UI just makes sense.
I'll be covering both the Panasonic G9 Mark II and the Panasonic S5 in their own separate posts, because I absolutely love both cameras.
That said, I am not ready to give up on Nikon/Nikon Z yet. They may not be going in the direction I want them to go given I just will be keeping what glass I have for those cameras as well as any adapted Nikon F mount lenses I have (which I will never give up- there's reason why Nikon DSLRs in F mount are having this revival and comeback in popularity recently).
I'm also not giving up any of my older Canon DSLRs up till my 90D and will still shoot those on occasion as well as the oddities in my collection such as my one Fuji X Trans camera, the Sigma DSLR, a few older Olympus M43rds cameras, etc as well as my collection of pocket cameras.
In the last few weeks of "Random weather" my region has while we transition into my favorite time of the year to take photos: Mid Spring I'm going to make my best effort to chew through the photos I took last season, and hopefully have some more content to post (along with a few new gear updates and reviews here and there).
Don't expect a weekly post from me, and even monthly may not happen; but I do hope to use and update this blog a lot more then just forgetting about it for another year.
